Common Reasons for Silent Speakers
A complete lack of audio output can stem from several overlapping causes:
- Volume is muted or set to zero
- Wrong output device selected
- Speakers/headphones not connected properly
- Audio drivers missing or corrupted
- Browser tab muted
- Hardware issue with speakers
Quick Fix
- Check volume - Make sure it's not muted (click speaker icon)
- Check physical connections - Cables, Bluetooth pairing
- Check browser tab - Look for muted speaker icon on tab
- Try another app - Play a YouTube video to test
- Restart browser or computer
Windows Solutions
Check Volume Mixer
- Right-click the speaker icon in taskbar
- Click "Open Volume Mixer"
- Make sure your browser volume isn't at zero or muted
- Check that the master volume is up
Select Correct Output Device
- Right-click speaker icon → "Sound settings"
- Under "Output", select your speakers or headphones
- Click the device and check volume level
Run Audio Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings → System → Sound
